Hot Toys and Star Wars are getting a blast from the past with a stunning sixth scale collectible figure that features Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Made famous by Sir Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy, McGregor put on his own pair of robes to play a younger Kenobi and chart the fall of Anakin Skywalker. Everyone has their own thoughts on George Lucas’ prequel trilogy, but there is no denying that McGregor was one of the shining stars of Episodes I-III. Alongside McGregor’s best performances in the likes of Trainspotting and Moulin Rouge!, Star Wars is something he will always be remembered for.
To remember McGregor, Sideshow Collectibles is releasing Obi-Wan in both normal and deluxe form. It is a deluxe version sixth scale statue, which comes jam-packed with all the accessories you would expect from a Hot Toys figurine.
As the specs detail, there are over 30 points of articulation, 8 hands for all of Obi-Wan’s poses, and interchangeable graphics cards to really set the scene. Perfectly capturing the likeness of McGregor’s character from Episode IIII, Hot Toys even went as far as recreating his shaggy beard in the years leading to his Tatooine exile.
Notably, the Revenge of the Sith Deluxe version can be seen cradling a baby Luke Skywalker and also comes with a light-up hologram of Anakin bowing before Emperor Palpatine. The standard version still has an LED lightsaber and severed Battle Droid, but the Deluxe certainly looks like it is worth the extra money. Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan Deluxe are available to pre-order now at a mere $235/$274 respectively and expected to ship in Q1 or Q2 of 2019.
As fans have seen recently with the release of the Infinity War line, Hot Toys really pushes the boat out when it comes to getting every minute detail right. Here, you can change Obi-Wan’s base for the cavernous corridors of a space ship or even give him that all important high-ground before he strikes down Anakin. Obi-Wan is something of a bland character to turn into toy form because his costume is largely the same in all six movies, but at least Hot Toys have managed to do something different and actually make the prequel movies seem cool again.
While McGregor has remained cryptic on whether he would reprise the role for the proposed Obi-Wan anthology movie, the figure is here to remind everyone just how good he was in the role. As Hot Toys rolls out a whole line of Star Wars memorabilia, there is also a Revenge of the Sith Anakin on his way so fans can replay the iconic Battle of Mustafar over and over again.
