This week The Bachelor’s producers orchestrated yet another surprise ex controversy when Victoria Fuller went on a date with Peter Weber to see a Chase Rice concert, who happened to be her ex. All parties involved had no idea this was happening, except for the Bachelor producers, of course, and Rice is angry about being blindsided by the production.
With only a few weeks into this season, Victoria has already established herself as a contestant to watch on Weber’s season. Known for being on the shy side, she has struggled to take control of the uncomfortable situation. Still, she’s managed to catch Weber’s attention, even getting a one-on-one date with Peter. Though, neither she nor Peter knew that they would be attending a concert of a country music singer that happened to be her ex. Victoria walked into the concert with nothing in mind but to have fun and do her best to make a lasting impression on Peter, but after she realized it was her ex, Chase Rice, performing for them she rightfully freaked out. She came clean to Peter explaining to him that she had once dated Rice.
The country singer revealed on Fitz in the Morning radio show (via People) on Monday that he thought he was on the ABC reality show to promote his music as many other performers have done in the past. However, he revealed that he was blindsided by the Bachelor producers just as much as Victoria was. The 34-year-old country singer said, “We spent a night together in Charlotte, she’s a cool chick, from what I know of her.” He continued, “You know, I got no problem with her. I got no problem with him. You know, I knew she was going on the show.” Although he knew that Victoria was on the show, he didn’t think production would trick him like that, saying, “I told my manager and my publicist, they were like, ‘Don’t even worry about that. They’re not going to do that to you, that’s a weird coincidence, but they’re not gonna - there’s no way they would do that to you. They’ve never brought somebody else in like that, surprised the guest on the show.’”
Needless to say, Rice wasn’t very happy about the way the producers used him as a pawn to create more drama for the show, saying, “So the fact they did that to me, it’s over the top, it’s unnecessary, I didn’t expect it.” In fact, he was more than upset, as he puts it, he “was really pissed off” about not being told he’d come face to face with his ex as he was expecting to be there to only promote his new country music album, The Album: Part I. He explained how this was the exact opposite of what he intended, saying, “If there’s anything I ever wanted, it’s to have nothing to do with the drama of that show.”
This isn’t the first time this season that The Bachelor production has orchestrated a meeting between two exes, there was, of course, the situation of having Hannah Brown return. It seems that the producers are constantly using their puppeteering to add more drama to the season and while it may be fun to watch for audiences, these are real people with real lives that are being affected by the unfair manipulation of the show.
